Meet Khafiz.

Khafiz’s photography is nothing short of cinematic. Each frame is clean, intentional, and dripping with talent—sometimes gritty, sometimes poignant, Khafiz seems to always have full control over his aesthetic -from idea to execution. Every photo feels ready to be printed and hung on a wall. Artistic and powerful, Khafiz’s submissions are simply a visual delight. This week marks Khafiz’ 246th frame in the project!

Your life in 30 words or less

Husband, father, teacher, introvert, retired military veteran, photographer, and just a jack of all trades. I truly enjoy learning new things and getting out of my comfort zone (in moderation).

Can you share 2 images, one from your past, and one more recent, that show your evolution as a photographer?

What has been your favorite style of shooting lately?

I have been into photographing birds and other small wildlife lately. For all of 2025 so far, I have been focused solely on this type of photography and and my goal is to post one bird or other wildlife photo per day on Instagram for 365 days just to keep me motivated (so far I have not missed a day). It has been amazing because I have learned about and seen so many different birds and other wildlife for the first time now that I’m paying attention. It’s been a great learning experience so far and I’ve recently also begun dabbling in macro photography to capture some of the less noticeable insect wildlife.

How did you find out about 52Frames?

I was searching online for different photography challenges to start out the new year and I was really drawn to the simplicity and supportiveness of the project.

What submission are you most proud of and why?

I am most proud of this photo because it was my first 52Pick after only my fourth submission. I was so proud to have been selected for that as a newcomer to 52Frames and also as a new photographer. Another reason I’m proud of this photo is that it made me realize that professional equipment isn’t always necessary to take a good photo. I took this on the floor using natural light from a sliding glass door and a flashlight with a brown plastic grocery bag to act as a diffuser to eliminate some of the harsh light and shadows. It was my first time really experimenting with lighting and having fun with the creative process.

One tip you’d like to share?

If you’re not feeling motivated or don’t know what to shoot, just pick up a camera and let it guide you. Just about anything can make a great subject for a photo, sometimes all you need is good lighting and a bit of imagination.

Why is 52Frames meaningful to you?

52Frames is meaningful to me because it marks the first time in my life I’ve actually felt at home in an online community. It has also taught me so much and made me feel confident in calling myself a “photographer”, even if I don’t do it professionally. For someone like me, who knew very little about photography when I started, I can honestly say that 52Frames has helped me learn just about everything I know and made me explore so many different genres and styles of photography that I didn’t know existed.
