Become a better photographer
taken by me for week 48 Hold a light (2023)
Featured Framer

Meet Jan.

Jan seems to master every style of photography he takes on. It’s rare to see someone excel across so many genres: food, street, macro, portraits, even studio work, and yet Jan does it all with impressive skill and consistency. Each frame submitted feels intentional and polished, no matter the subject or setup. If you’re not already following Jan, I highly recommend it, he never disappoints. This week marks Jan’s 251st frame in the project!

Can you share 2 images, one from your past, and one more recent, that show your evolution as a photographer?

What has been your favorite style of shooting lately?

I am into many genres but absolutely love street photography. It’s about being “full on” in the moment: alert, fearless and completely immersed in the unpredictable rhythm of the streets. Besides that I want to get better at Food photography.

What was the first photo you ever submitted to 52Frames?

Week 1: Self portrait (2020)

How did you find out about 52Frames?

I found a link inside a Facebook group about photography.

What submission are you most proud of and why?

Getting back to portraits/ fashion in a kind of vintage style with an amazing model in an amazing old train carriage. I had a great day shooting and when I took the shot I already knew I was very happy with it.

One tip you’d like to share?

Investing in your skill by doing workshops with good photographers improves your pictures more than by buying new gear (although that can be a trigger to go out more).

Why is 52Frames meaningful to you?

Before I joined 52Frames I only took my camera out for holidays. Now it has become a regular part of my life taking a camera along. For sure, not wanting to loose my streak makes me more committed to taking pictures and regular practice, also in challenges that I from the beginning did not like, turns me into a better photographer.
