“Monsoon Stories”
Why I liked it: Prarthana took a "When Life Gives You Lemons" approach to monsoon season and experimented shooting through a transparent umbrella in the rain. The real kicker, and what makes this photo truly stand out is the color treatment Prarthana gave in post which really enhances the complementary tones in the image. A subtle and beautiful photograph.

“Playing with light”
Why I liked it: The cropped hair, the closed eyes the subtle pink and orange hue, all that forms a strong foundation for the impressive optic light trick that Fabienne incorporated in this shot. What I love the most is that she describes how she was inspired to buy this light after seeing a similar photo, but it sat on the shelf for years before this challenge came up. If I may share a critique, I think the thick white framing is not necessary and detracts a bit from the colors Fabienne captured. A real special photo. I just love the energy you can feel in this shot.

“Life and death struggle”
Why I liked it: I would never have thought to combine infrared and macro photography and while Canan gives himself some critique in his photo caption, I think what he documented here is a truly spectacular photo. I personally don’t come from the world of macro or infrared so I can’t speak to its technique but I am simply wowed by the final product. Do it again, Canan!

“Puzzled”
Why I liked it: One look at Francoise’ image and I realized there was a lot more to this story. In a world of AI prompting it is so inspiring to see someone go through the process of taking a photo, printing it, cutting it into strips, placing it in an abstract way, and taking a photo again. This speaks to the heart of what creativity is; the process as well as the execution of Francoise’ photo here is nothing short of inspiring.

“Black Betty”
Why I liked it: Sydni’s photo here seems to do so much more with so much less. By using the very creative technique of adding Vaseline to the front of the lens, Sydni created a surreal, dreamlike effect that gives the image so much depth. But what really makes the photo work for me is the lovely blue hour light paired with an introspective-looking subject. Together, they give the image this cinematic aesthetic that truly stands out.
