Become a better photographer
taken by me for Week 1: Self Portrait (2026)
Featured Framer

Meet Altine.

Altine’s work is a shining example of how experimentation is always better than perfection. A scroll through her profile reveals macro drops, ICM, black and white portraiture, Photoshop composites, and on and on and on! No two frames seem to share the same exact aesthetic, and that’s exactly what makes her work so exciting to follow. But Altine is not just experimenting for the sake of experimenting, somehow she pulls it off every week: There’s story, beautiful composition, and excellent technique in every submission. It’s an impressive feat, and I think a great beacon for us all to emulate. This week marks Altine’s 179th frame in the project!

Your life in 30 words or less

I’m a mom, spouse, dog-mom, gardner, nurse informaticist, nature lover, and obsessed hobby photographer. Taking photos helps connect my detail-filled life with my heart’s passions.

Can you share 2 images, one from your past, and one more recent, that show your evolution as a photographer?

What has been your favorite style of shooting lately?

I’m excited to be diving deeper into studio photography and learning more about light control. It’s helping me discover new perspectives for our weekly challenges and express my ideas in ways I never could before.

What was the first photo you ever submitted to 52Frames?

2022 week 52: Redo (My first attempt with an off camera light)

How did you find out about 52Frames?

I belonged to an On1 PhotoRaw Facebook group and saw a group member’s December post promoting 52. It was perfect timing since I was looking for inspiration at that time.

What submission are you most proud of and why?

2024 wee 12: Chaos
2024 week 12: Chaos

This is a tough question! There are so many photos I’ve been inspired by this project to take that I could never have imagined knowing how to shoot. So I went for one of my three most emotionally meaningful submissions.

This was one of my early attempts at using an off camera flash. It was also the first time that a concept occurred to me and I felt like I could actually bring it to life. As I wove together the smoke, the portrait, and a fill layer in post, I was so excited when the surreal, emotion driven story I wanted to tell emerged, almost exactly as I had imagined it.

One tip you’d like to share?

Don’t let imposter syndrome hold you back. When I first joined and saw the mad skills and creativity of my fellow framers, I felt like I could never measure up. As I studied the weekly Tips and Tricks, old albums, Yosef’s Shooting 101, and Patron tutorials, I began to realize that I didn’t need to compete with or please others, but instead started to focus on challenging myself to try new ideas and techniques. Some weeks are hard, but I’ve learned to keep shooting (still working on embracing imperfection!). Make this your journey, your way to express what matters to you, and have fun with it!

Why is 52Frames meaningful to you?

Before 52Frames, I LOVED photography, but I pretty much only shot landscapes and macros. This project has driven me to challenge myself and discover a level of creativity and joy within the art of photography that I had never realized before. It has also allowed me to connect with new friends around the world who have been supportive not just of my art, but of some tough things I’ve been through in the last several years. I find myself inspired and awed weekly by my fellow Framers.
Art, learning, and community- this is a fantastic project to be part of!
