“After Dark”
Why I liked it: BLG’s photo here is a lovely testament that the photo is often all about the moment, capturing a slice of magic that only appears for a fraction of a second. That this photographer was able to capture this low-light scene with such beautiful clarity and a beautifully crisp depth of field makes the moment all the more special

“Things That Go Bump In The Night”
Why I liked it: Heather had all hands on deck. With her daughter modeling for her and another family member positioning the creepy hand they borrowed from a friend in one hand and holding a blue light wand on the other hand, it’s a beautiful setup that shows you a bit of creativity and story can make for a fantastic photo even without having to leave the house

“Quiet”
Why I liked it: Marit’s photo is like a beautiful fever dream that feels as if there was some trickery or Photoshop composite work but it’s actually just her family pooling their creativity together. Her daughter is pulling out the props and modeling for the scene and an extension cord is providing the practical light. It just makes for a lovely mysterious scene. Marit could have bumped up the background shadow exposure a bit so we could see a bit more of the scene but I do like the heavy mysterious contrast here as well.

“The Witch’s Broom: 2,400 Years Into the Night”
Why I liked it: I’ve had members tell me not to highlight any of our top three photos in this blog but I can’t help myself. This blog is about my favorite photos in the album and this one happens to be an absolute standout. Johnny has delivered this jaw-dropping photo of "the witch’s broom," which is 2,400 light-years away. He managed this by building a custom shock-absorbing platform next to his house and a modded Canon RP. This photo is a shocking 115 stacked photos, each at 180 seconds, for an equivalence of almost six hours of open shutter time. An absolute mind-blowing feat that I honestly don’t quite understand but I can truly appreciate! Thank you for being here, Johnny/Pav!

“Bridge at Night”
Why I liked it: Benjamin captured this incredible view of the Percy V. Pennybacker Jr. Bridge located in Austin, Texas, using a DJI MiniPro5 drone. It was taken with five auto-bracketed shots at 2 seconds each, stacked in Dolby Lightroom to get all the light trails while somehow keeping the bridge details static. It’s an incredible use case of using a drone and I absolutely love this crisp end result.
