Meet El.

El’s photos fly off the page with vivid character, color, and often comedy. Using her son as a model for many of her submissions, El somehow weaves a full spectrum of emotion from week to week and a simple scroll down her feed reveals an extreme understanding of crafting a story through clear and concise imagery, often with elaborate setups. Her work is simply a joy to watch. This week marks El’s 108th submission in the project.

Your life in 30 words or less

Devoted wife and mother of two boys, chasing two dogs. Cellist, crocheter, and soft-pastel painter who rocks out to alternative rock—especially U2. Karaoke lover and I love photography, capturing life with serious humor.

Can you share 2 images, one from your past, and one more recent, that show your evolution as a photographer?

What has been your favorite style of shooting lately?

I’m a big fan of organized shooting. I lean heavily into staged narrative and conceptual photography because I love the process of mapping out an idea from scratch and then building the scene to bring it to life.

What was the first photo you ever submitted to 52Frames?

I saw one of the photographers I follow on instagram tag 52Frames and I thought it was interesting.

What submission are you most proud of and why?

This shot is so special to me. For one, my oldest son was a willing participant, which rarely happens since he usually hates being in front of my camera. Beyond that, capturing his reflection in those tiny water droplets was a massive test of patience. It took so much trial and error, a ton of online troubleshooting, and every single trick up my sleeve, but I finally got exactly what I envisioned.

One tip you’d like to share?

I would advise anyone to take an extra second to look at the very outer borders of your shot and clear out the clutter. I know nowadays with the power of AI, you don’t have to bother, but I always think that extra attention to detail goes a long way! Think of it as clearing the stage to let your main subject shine!

Why is 52Frames meaningful to you?

52Frames is a great outlet for me to explore my love of photography. I know sometimes life gets in the way. I find that at least having to pick up my camera once a week forces me to take a step back and think through my process, and I love that. I love getting creative and executing my ideas.
