What has been your favorite style of shooting lately?

I really like doing female portraits, whether in the studio or outdoors. And if it is with my 85mm, even better. Love the bokeh that the Nikkor 85mm 1.8G does outdoors.

What was the first photo you ever submitted to 52Frames?

How did you find out about 52Frames?

Someone shared the link to the page in a Cuban Facebook photography group, I was looking for something like 52 Frames.

What submission are you most proud of and why?

As it happens to all of us, we have many favorites, and each one has a path that led us to that result, I did this one in particular for the “Distorted” challenge, week 30 of 2021. I had done one preliminarily with a model and a lens ball, but the result was not what I expected, so sitting in front of my computer it occurred to me to play with the distortions of lines projected on my monitor in water drops on a reflective surface. The result exceeded my expectations, as it was the cover of that challenge, among so many works of excellent quality. Three years have passed and I still don’t dare repeat the same scenario for fear that it won’t turn out as wonderful – at least for me – as this one I made.

One tip you’d like to share?

Photography is a muscle that should not stop being exercised. Learn from mistakes and try again until it works out.

Why is 52Frames meaningful to you?

I don’t make a living from photography, so I don’t use the camera every day. I have saved all my photos since I started taking this passion seriously, and I can say that inside some folders from some month they only have inside the folders from each week corresponding to the 52frames challenges. What keeps me thinking every week if I haven’t been able to use my camera for something else, is 52frames. I’ve met wonderful people online, and I met a framer who came to Cuba and took a few minutes out of her busy schedule to meet me. I have improved with all the knowledge and resources shared here and I feel very happy to belong and have lasted so long!

  1. Beautiful imagery. I love your use of red in your portrait work. Congratulations on being selected.

  2. Abel is indeed one of the most influential folks I’ve met in 52 Frames. He’s not only a wonderful artist but also a wise and insightful commenter and he’s not greedy when it comes to sharing his ideas and techniques. I’m so glad he’s being featured here. I can’t count the times I’ve thought of my challenges and said to myself “How would Abel do this?” Of course, his results are superb compared to mine, but that’s why I said he’s an influencer. 😀

  3. Abel’s one of my favs! Thanks to you both for the opportunity to learn a little bit more about him. In his work, I’m reminded of visits to Cuba and inspired to make another. Always, I appreciate his eye. Nice to meet you a little more, Abel!

  4. Abel is so talented, creative, and kind. His work is inspiring, and he always offers kind words and helpful critiques. Congrats on the feature, my friend!
