Become a better photographer
Week 1 Self-portrait 2022
Featured Framer

Meet Dagmar.

Dagmar’s submissions are simply a photo delight. While seemingly chaotic from afar, each photo is clean and intentional. Dagmar’s vibrant abstracts, rich in color, are an absolute joy to take in. Fun fact, Dagmar went 9 weeks only using an egg as her subject. This week marks Dagmar’s 223rd frame!

What has been your favorite style of shooting lately?

My style has not really changed a lot recently. I have always loved to play with the abstract and still do so. My approach is experimental and my aim is not so much to show what is, but what could be. One thing that has changed recently is that my work has become more conceptual. I have been working on larger projects that will lead to presentations in the real world (exhibitions, books). It is great to be able to share parts of my work here on 52Frames. Thank you everybody for your feedback and exchanges!
I have also been diving more into analog processes in order to get looks that are “not from this world“. Photograms, Polaroids, cyanotypes, film shots… The processes are very playful, beyond full control, and therefore great fun. I love to play with light and I love to be surprised by the results.

What was the first photo you ever submitted to 52Frames?

How did you find out about 52Frames?

I did research on the internet and remember being very excited when I found the project..

The camera is such a powerful tool. This photo represents how much I love to explore what can be done with it. It was one of my first attempts to shoot infrared photos. I used a cheap camera on eBay, the Sony F-828, that can transformed into an infrared camera simply by using a magnet. The processing of the image was done from RAW. It needed some extra steps. I was so thrilled to see the results. A proof that it does not always need expensive and high-tech gear to make interesting photos.

One tip you’d like to share?

Always go for what you love the most and connect to those Framers who share your passion. There are many creative, inspirational and helpful people in this project who are willing to share their knowledge and thoughts. We can learn so much from each other and by doing so we grow as photographers.

Why is 52Frames meaningful to you?

I love to explore photography and interact with creative and friendly people. I like the fact that I get many different perspectives from Framers all over the world, which expands my horizons. I have met other Framers in person and some Framers have become really close friends. I am thankful for that. Finally, I can truly say that the project has helped me – more than once – to keep on shooting even when life was rough and I did not have much energy. I kept creating and now I am proud and happy because I strongly believe that the creative process counts a lot more than a single result.
