Featured Framer

Meet Tennessee Rick.

Often leaning on black-and-white processing, Tennessee Rick’s subjects always shine through his photos regardless of how much is going on the frame. A big part of that is Tennessee Rick’s masterful understanding of light, as well as his courage to experiment with different techniques outside of his amazing skillset. It is a real treat to see his talents here each week! This week marks Tennessee Rick’s 203rd frame!

Your life in 30 words or less

I started photography late in life when I inherited the high school yearbook when the previous sponsor unexpectedly replied. I have all the creativity of dry white toast, but I learn from all other photographers!

Can you share 2 images, one from your past, and one more recent, that show your evolution as a photographer?

What has been your favorite style of shooting lately?

I love low key, film noir style of portraits. I especially enjoy creating portraits of strangers; street portraits.

What was the first photo you ever submitted to 52Frames?

How did you find out about 52Frames?

I stumbled upon the 52Frames website while scrolling through the Internet.

What submission are you most proud of and why?

Week 35: Rule of Thirds
Week 35: Rule of Thirds

I am most proud of this photo because it’s of my wife. As photographers we take pictures of all sorts of things, but it seems like we don’t always take portraits of those who mean the most to us. I made that mistake with my parents. We never got around to taking photos of them because there was always “going to be time,” until there wasn’t time. I now take photos of my friends and family every chance I get.

One tip you’d like to share?

Every picture has a story behind it. If you snap a photo of a stranger, get their email and send it to them. Don’t look just for beauty, but look for “interesting.” I think you’ll find that everyone has beauty if we’ll just take the time to see it.
Those images will spark a memory for those folks for years to come. Always share your images.

Why is 52Frames meaningful to you?

It provides a chance for me to step outside my comfort zone and try something new. I’ve learned a ton in the time I’ve participated in this project. In addition, I’ve met such wonderful folks; fellow framers, as well as those folks I’ve photographed.
