A quick scroll down Laney’s feed and you can see Laney’s incredible talent jump off the page. A wonderful aesthetic of blues, and macros, and of course Laney’s forte, astrophotography landscapes (!) it’s a delight to take it all in. Laney doesn’t lean on what she’s good at, though, and is constantly experimenting with different techniques from abstract to PS techniques, and it’s a true pleasure to have Laney in our community. This week marks Laney’s 146th frame!

Your life in 30 words or less
Chaos that creates quickly and resolves slowly
Can you share 2 images, one from your past, and one more recent, that show your evolution as a photographer?
What has been your favorite style of shooting lately?
Minimalistic and painterly. I found out that I’m very much inspired by the Old Masters of European Art History, especially Caspar David Friedich (which is fortunate as I live in the kind of landscape today he grew up in and sometimes that actually shows) and Ruisdael etc. I love low horizons and photos that show the power of nature – but also the calm and devine in it. I took a ‘textures’ challenge this year which helped me achieve painterly effects even better and it’s always fun to try them out and learn more and also create textures.
What was the first photo you ever submitted to 52Frames?
How did you find out about 52Frames?
When I moved to the place I call home now, I checked out the local photographers and followed them to get to know my new surroundings before I was there, physically. One of them was (and is) a member of 52frames and that got me interested.
What submission are you most proud of and why?
This is easily at least one of my Top 3 photos ever. For some reason, and as I found out during the past years, when I take photos, I take them for big dimensions. I’m not taking them for phone displays or postcards, I always envision them in big prints. Whenever I see this one, I see it hanging on a huge wall all surrounded by white walls, like a foyer with stairs rising up on either side. Maybe that’s being proud.
One tip you’d like to share?
I know it’s not alwas easy with lives going on and challenges to overcome, but whenever possible, get out of your comfort zone and embrace the challenges you dislike most. In my case, I’ve learnt the most from them and they were inevitably the challenges I like most once they were over and done with.
Why is 52Frames meaningful to you?
I’d say at least 90% of the photos I’ve taken since I’ve joined 52frames would not exist otherwise. Which also means that I owe most of my skills to 52frames now and also the fact that today I know I can pull of a task in photography. I could deliver an order, so that’s confidence. Also, it keeps me going. With all that’s going on in my chaotic life, I wouldn’t have taken any photos for weeks and months on end. 52frames has made the weekly photo a priority no matter what.
