Meet Sylvie.

Every so often I am absolutely floored by someone’s creativity. Sylvie is one of those standouts. To take on an ambitious idea is one thing, but to do it every week is absolutely inspiring. Sylvie weaves her creative ideation with her excellent editing skills that are a joy to take in each week. This week marks Sylvie’s 251st frame in the project!

Your life in 30 words or less

I need to be creative to quiet the chaos in my brain. I’ve been crafting my whole life and I have been interested in photography for a long time, but it was only when I bought a used DSLR 6 years ago that I got the photography bug.

Can you share 2 images, one from your past, and one more recent, that show your evolution as a photographer?

What has been your favorite style of shooting lately?

I don’t have a favorite style per se, as I love learning and trying different types of photography. However, I do enjoy composites and adding humor or unexpected elements to my photos. And of course, if I can dress up, even better!

What was the first photo you ever submitted to 52Frames?

How did you find out about 52Frames?

I was looking for a way to keep using my camera and getting feedback as I learned and found 52Frames online.

What submission are you most proud of and why?

It’s hard to pick just one as they all have a story and part of my journey. However, I’m very proud of my Ophelia concept. This was something I wanted to do with my daughter for a long time, so I bought a kiddie pool just for it. I didn’t know if I could pull it off, and I put a lot of pressure on myself to create something my daughter would love. When I looked at the raw files, I knew I had nailed it!

One tip you’d like to share?

One of the best things I did was to create submissions inspired by famous photographers or visual artists for a full year. Not only did it help improve my skills, but it also helped me find my own style based on what I liked and didn’t like. You probably don’t need to do it for a full year, but doing so gave me a chance to go beyond the 10-20 most well-known photographers and discover how much more there is to explore.

Why is 52Frames meaningful to you?

Aside from giving me a reason to take my camera out every week for the last 4.5 years, I’ve learned so much from the variety of challenges and the positive online community.

  1. I love your work, you’re part of my ‘inspiration’ group in 52f. Thanks for the tips about continuing to be inspired by famous photographers. That is such a great idea. I know each time that is a challenge, I learn so much. I’ll put it into my toolbox for future use.

  2. I think that your photos are just out of the box. I think I lack creativity and found your comment about getting inspiration from famous photographers very interesting. Would you please mention some names? I am really new to the area and would benefit from following the work of good photographers

  3. I’ve been a fan from the first time I saw a post. Your creativity is inspiring, and your editing skills are dazzling! And now you’re famous!

  4. I marvel at your masterpieces! Such fun you had completing each one. You are bold, brave and clever. Your work entertains me. I love your spoon ladle boat including shadow in water. So many fun fotos for me. Thank you.
