Your life in 30 words or less

I am a mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, and of course, photographer. My passion is for macro photography because I love to find hidden beauty in the details.

Can you share 2 images, one from your past, and one more recent, that shows your evolution as a photographer?

What has been your favorite style of shooting lately?

As a macro photographer who loves to shoot flowers, I really like to shoot at home in my studio. I prefer to have complete control on my lighting and not having to worry about the wind. Also, if I’m being honest, as a mostly self-taught photographer, my technical skills are not the best, and I’m always afraid of being judged by other photographers. So when I do go out, to the gardens or the zoo for example, I am very quick in getting my shots and moving on. My goal for this summer is actually to face my fear – to get out more and take my time. I’d really like to bring my tripod with me and see what I can do in the field!

How did you find out about 52Frames?

I noticed an old friend on Facebook posting to 52Frames. I started watching the page for a few weeks and then decided to join in.

What submission are you most proud of and why?

Week 39: Inspired by a Photograph (2018)
Week 39: Inspired by a Photograph (2018)

I had been researching many macro floral photographers for a while and never thought I’d be able to achieve anything close to what I was seeing. So when “Inspired by a Photograph” came around, I decided to go all in. I spent days on this photo…researching, photographing, editing. I was so proud of what I accomplished. It was this moment that I felt I had really turned a corner.

One tip you’d like to share?

I think people underestimate the value of critiquing other people’s photos. I honestly think it could be more useful than getting feedback on your own. After a while it really helps you to see your own photos more clearly.

Why is 52Frames meaningful to you?

There are two ways in which 52Frames has become so meaningful to me. The first is that it has gotten me and my husband out exploring all parts of Long Island that we never knew existed. Seven years later and we’re still loving discovering new places. The second is that even as a mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend, I love that at the end of every week, even if only for a few minutes, I have done something just for me.

  1. Wow, I love her work and that she does a lot from home. I am the same; I do my 52 Frames just for me and I love it. Thanks for sharing Sandi’s work.

  2. Beautiful work! I totally understand and share your fear Sandi! Imposter syndrome is all too real in this self-taught photographer, too. Your work is outstanding!

  3. I really relate with the comment on worrying about judgement. I’m learning though, that all of us are students, and for the most part, people know this and are kind! Enjoyable profile and love the work!
