Your “walk-around” gear right now:

Canon 800D with a Tamron lens – 24-70mm, 2.8.

I must admit to using my iPhone 13 more and more frequently

The place you call home:

Terrigal, NSW, Australia

Your life in 30 words or less

At the age of 73, I continue to work full time as an intensive care nurse – not sure for how much longer! Always loved photography.

Can you share 2 images, one from your past, and one more recent, that shows your evolution as a photographer?

My 2011 submission for 'Forced Perspective'.

What has been your favorite style of shooting lately?

Even though I have been taking photos since the 1960’s, I cannot say I have a favourite style. I enjoy macro, water themed long exposures, black and white and I guess, whatever takes my eye.

What was the first photo you ever submitted to 52Frames?

Week 28: Themeless (2011)

How did you find out about 52Frames?

FB friends with a friend of Yosef’s – so his submission popped up on my page! Contacted Yosef, submitted a small portfolio and was accepted.

What submission are you most proud of and why?

This was submitted for the theme 'Gratitude" in 2018

I think this photo of the ‘nippers’ (Terrigal Surf Club) following their fundraising colour run captures the moment of absolute fun and excitement of their shared experience.

One tip you’d like to share?

Always have a camera with you – Loving my iPhone 13!

Why is 52Frames meaningful to you?

Because of 52Frames, i have tried so many different photography techniques that I would not have otherwise. Macro photography, abstract, long exposure and photo stacking to name a few. My editing has become more sophisticated. Understanding and using layers was for me, a game changer. Submitting each week also ensures that I am out taking photos with either my canon or phone – a great down-time activity. Thank you Yosef.

  1. Nice to meet you Julie! I only joint the club for a few weeks and I hope to stick around for ad long as you do! Cool to see hoe much you improved.

  2. This is beautiful and I appreciate your sharing. I am newer to 52f inky contributing over the last 2 years, and not always every week. I love your photos and I love this “club” to push me to be shooting every week in ways, at times, that I never have. Thank you!

  3. Also, I have been a photographer since 1977 when my parents bought me a used film camera that launched me into B&W and shortly thereafter into creating a darkroom inour house. I am sure I damaged 2 different bathrooms before building a permanent darkroom in a work study job in college.

  4. Julie, this is an inspiring story of a significant life, lived fully and well! I am in my early 70’s have had a life-long interest in photography which began, of course, with film (and continues with film).. But your growth in the art form inspires me to keep learning, challenging myself and getting better. In my first year as a framer, I look forward to each week’s challenge, even if it’s…”Huh? What does THAT mean?!” Thanks for your continued contributions to all of us!

  5. Nice to meet you, Julie. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas.

I recently joined 52 frames at the suggestion of my son-in-law. I have always enjoyed taking photos, but never with a photographer’s eye. So I have now submitted 5 frames and have found the different types of subject matter to be a challenge.

  6. Hi Julie

I really am a newbie at only 21 weeks but I’ve already learned so much. Like you, I love my camera phone as much as my camera because it’s so convenient to take pictures with on the go. You inspire me to keep at this, even when some weeks are not as good as others.
