Your life in 30 words or less

I’m an artist, wife, mother, and perfectionist looking for the answers to life’s existential questions through art. I also deeply appreciate a good donut.

Can you share 2 images, one from your past, and one more recent, that shows your evolution as a photographer?

What has been your favorite style of shooting lately?

Composite images and images where the light feels alive, or enchanting, are on my radar currently. Making the real look magical and the magical look real.. that style of creation is a place I’ve stumbled into and love. I’ve also started taking my camera out into nature when I’m lost in my head, or worried about current global events.

Week 52: Combine 3 Challenges (2021)

Prior to 52 frames, my creative process resulted in many perceived failures. I’d hit major mental walls. The friction would wear down my confidence as a creator. From a conceptual perspective, this image felt like a statement of acceptance. Me picking up the pieces of life thus far, presenting this fragmented whole to the world, despite serious discomfort and anxiety. This feels very dramatic, but I can be dramatic, so it’s truthful. The process of making the image was also very balanced. I allowed a mix of plan and improvisation. I’m proud of this, as a person who gets trapped in either/or thinking. From a technical perspective, this type of light capture is one I’ve always aspired to, but never thought I could do.

One tip you’d like to share?

When stuck, get out of photography and go study other art forms. Music, paintings, drawings, nature, movies, good conversation…Take time to enjoy those mediums. Think about what you like and why. Then come back to your work, and be generous with grace as you create.

Why is 52Frames meaningful to you?

This community is a special thing. It’s a diverse and incredibly supportive group of people who’ve come together under the conceptual umbrella of photography. There are so many lovely, talented people on this platform, from all over the world, who I now consider friends. I am so grateful for each one.

I think of her as one of my earliest 52Friends.
