Your life in 30 words or less
I am a happy self-taught photographer, always looking for the perfect balance between my family, friends, work and photography.
Can you share 2 images, one from your past, and one more recent, that shows your evolution as a photographer?
What has been your favorite style of shooting lately?
I love experimenting with new styles I find in online tutorials. Right now, I love to utilize negative space in my photos. I just love that empty space.
What was the first photo you ever submitted to 52Frames?
What submission are you most proud of and why?
This is but one of many photos I’ve taken with 52Frames over the last 7 years, but this is the style I really love – A lot of empty space, with something that the draws the viewer’s attention to the corner of the photo.
One tip you’d like to share?
Don’t be afraid to submit your photo. Not every photo can be your best photo, but each photo you submit helps you to learn and grow, which will lead you to submit your best photo, at some point in the future.
Why is 52Frames meaningful to you?
Over the past 7 years I have been to many meet-ups and photo walks (in New York City, London, Amsterdam and Jerusalem) where I met so many inspiring Framers. Photographers of all ages and backgrounds, all with the same passion. Photographers with better gear, more experience and a great eye for composition, but still respectful to beginners. To me 52Frames feels like one big family full of inspiring family members.
I am delighted to learn so much about you, Ernst. I I remember seeing some of these photos in the album, and you have expanded my horizons by sharing more here about your concept and implementation of negative space. Wonderful!
As a newbie to 52Frames I am in awe of people who have been able to contribute for so long and develop so much.
Thanks for the inspiration Ernst. I am hoping to try more minimalist images and learn from you.
I knew nothing about Ernst other than he’s in a committee. I really enjoyed reading about his style, love of negative space as well as 2 photos to see his development. With such a huge community, I think these interviews are great idea and a really fun way if knowing more about the people who’ve been around for ages. I’d love to know too how people (including Ernst) found out about 52 frames.
Great idea! Fab way to meet a few more framers in the community – love the style you have found – those yellow pins are just amazing!
Like this new feature. Thank you for the insights Ernst
I also live negative space. Great to meet you.
Looking forward to these bios.
I love this new feature! Great idea! Loved learning a little about you, Ernst. Thank you so much for sharing. I started 52frames in January of this year and am in total awe of you framers that have been here for awhile. Enjoyed seeing the evolution of your work – inspiring!

What a fun idea and addition! Ernst, I have noticed your commitment and amazing minimalist photos since joining the group in January. I, too, love the family feel of this group. The feedback, encouragement, and inspiration is invaluable.
